Faculty and students’ orientation toward IKS

  • The university conducts IKS-based Workshops, webinars, and expert talks on yoga, meditation, mindfulness, etc.
  • At least one FDP shall be organized on IKS
  • 1-2 sessions shall be included in the FIP organized by the university
  • 1 session on IKS shall be included in Deeksharambh: Student Induction Program

Incorporation of IKS in the curriculum

  • In various disciplines such as History, Environmental Science, Sociology, English Literature, etc., the components of IKS are already there in the curricula
  • Various IKS-based activities like field trips, extension activities, and so on are conducted by respective disciplines such as Journalism, Visual Arts, etc.
  • Each discipline shall organize at least one IKS-based activity such as visits, expert talks, quizzes, competitions, etc. as a part of their curricula.

Introduction of New Courses under IKS

  • The University has offered IKS-based programmes such as M.A./M.Sc. in Yoga, COSD in Yoga, Folk Dance, Kathak Dance, Vocal music, etc. for several years.
  • A Foundation course on IKS with 2 credits shall be introduced by the Centre for Indian Knowledge Systems at the undergraduate level.
  • IKS based Value added courses shall be introduced by the different disciplines.
  • In Hindi/Sanskrit languages, electives shall be introduced at the undergraduate level.
  • Short-term courses such as Vedic Mathematics, Traditional Art and Culture, etc. shall be introduced.

Promotion of Pedagogy related to IKS

  • Various IKS-based pedagogical methods are already in practice in different departments, such as the use of audiovisual material, field studies, etc.
  • Other practices of experiential learning such as hands-on learning, arts-integrated and sports-integrated education, and story-telling-based pedagogy, shall be adopted by the faculty members
  • Three language formulas (Hindi, English, and regional language) shall be adopted for teaching-learning in undergraduate programmes

Exploration of the Rich and Diverse Heritage and Culture of our Country

  • The University commemorates important events such as Hindi Bhasha Diwas, Kargil Vijay Diwas, Premchand Jayanti and Constitution day.
  • The disciplines such as History, Sociology, JMC, Political Science, and Public Administration shall organize at least one visit annually to historical sites, and rural and tribal communities depicting our diverse culture, traditions, and lifestyle
  • The disciplines of Visual Arts, Fashion Design, and Jewellery Design shall organize ancient and regional art and handicraft exhibitions
  • The department of Home Science shall organise at least one cookery competition on regional cuisine

Orienting  Students towards Indian knowledge Systems through Extra-Curricular Activities

Traditional songs and dance performances are a regular feature in events such as Freshers’ Parties, Farewell, etc.

 

  • The cultural cell of the University shall organise IKS-based Inter and Intra university competitions during the Annual Fest.
  • Puppet shows depicting Indian tradition and culture are proposed to be a part of the Annual Fest.
  • The theatrical society must organise IKS-based nukkad natak, etc. in the campus and community
  • NSS cell shall organise at least 5 IKS-based activities in a year under the aegis of EBSB and UBA.

Felicitation on Outstanding Contribution for Promoting IKS

The University felicitates students for their outstanding contribution to Performing Arts during Annual Day

  • The University shall felicitate the students, alumnae, and faculty on Annual Day for their outstanding contribution to poetry, prose, novels, and nonfiction books in Indian languages.
  • The NSS cell shall give recognition to the student volunteers for contributing towards social upliftment

Promotion of Rich and Diverse Literature on IKS

The University magazine L-ink invites contributions for Poetry and stories in Hindi

Certain books related to Indian mythology, manuscripts and rare books, and replicas of the Indian Constitution are there  in the Central Library of the University

  • The library shall have a separate section for IKS-based literature.
  • The central library of the university shall organize at least 2 IKS based activities annually, such as Book Hunt, IKS literature exhibition, etc. to develop interest and curiosity in knowing our culture and traditions among students
  • The University shall encourage the faculty to prepare high-quality bilingual textbooks and teaching-learning materials for their respective subjects and share their IKS-based literature with the library.
  • Faculty may also translate the existing manuscripts, textbooks, and literature into regional languages.
  • The Central Library of the University shall enrich itself with more IKS-based literature such as Vedas, Upanishad, rare books, etc.
  • The Central Library of the University shall allocate 5% of its annual budget for purchasing IKS-based literature.

Promotion of  Research and Projects based on IKS

IKS-based research studies are already being carried out in some of the departments.

  • The CRIT shall organize at least one IKS-based Research Proposal Writing workshop in a year
  • Finance and Infrastructure Committee of the Research and Development Cell shall fund at least one student/Faculty IKS-based research project annually.
  • The departments shall encourage the students to undertake IKS-based minor research projects, such as content analysis of manuscripts, translation studies, explorative research for tribal communities, folklore, ancient art and dance forms etc.

Facilitation of Cultural Exchange Programmes

  • The NSS organizes various activities, such as Assamese Cuisine Competition, Folk dance, Assamese language learning activities, etc. under the aegis of EBSB.
  • NSS organises a national-level patriotic solo song competition annually, in which the participants perform in their regional languages.
  • The University shall organize an interstate student exchange program to acquaint the students with our nation’s cultural diversity.

Collaboration with organizations working on IKS through MOUs

IIS (deemed to be University) has signed MOU with The Art of Living Trust to train students in Indian knowledge aspects to give students a holistic. multi-disciplinary & value-based education.

  • The University shall try collaborating with other prominent organizations promoting IKS.
